Japanese language students of south Charlotte and the surrounding area gave community members a learning experience on April 19 for Japanese Day and Fourth Annual Fureai. The day included a collaborative presentation from students ranging from kindergarten to college age from South Mecklenburg High School, E. E. Waddell Language Academy, West Mecklenburg High School and UNC Charlotte, among others. The Japanese Teachers Association of Charlotte has hosted an annual event each year for about the past 15 years, according to Mayako Hamrick, a Waddell Japanese immersion kindergarten teacher. Guests enjoyed activities, such as sumie, origami, Kendama and 3D puzzles, along with sign and playing with the Koinobori with the Swimmy Project. Students also presented various presentations, including a Taiko performance and a kimono wearing demonstration. South Charlotte Weekly |
