Curriculum Night for rising 9th grade students at South Meck High School will be 2/13/17, 5-6:30pm, in the Auditorium.
South is proud of our Bilingual Students from the National Spanish Honor Society and National Honor Society who assisted our Latino parents in the first of three sessions on Technology and PowerSchool. The training is provided by Digital Charlotte and the instructor is Rubén Campillo. Los talleres son ofrecidos por Digital Charlotte , en español y el instructor fue Rubén Campillo .
Frau Rowland and Frau Wilson spent a chilly, Fall weekend in Quebec at the Goethe Institut as part of a nine-week professional development course. They will bring back lessons learned to share with colleagues at World Language Department meetings. More here.
On Monday, November 7th, a series of three Latino Parent Computer 101 classes will begin. Parents will learn how to navigate the computer system to help their students reach their goals. Digital Charlotte is providing the instructor, training modules, any handouts needed, and laptops for participants.
These classes are full, but another cycle is scheduled for January. Future classes will continue to be tailored to meet parent needs based on questions raised and will be offered in Spanish and English. To sign up or to volunteer with the classes, please contact Maura Chavez, VP of Parent Support with SMHS PTSA. Even as you prepare to "Fall back" on Saturday night, it's not too early to plan for Summer 2017. Frau Molly Rowland ([email protected]), South Meck HS German Teacher, is offering 45 contact hours in German for college credit:
Is your child passionate about the arts and the German language? Are they available from June 19-23? I'm so excited to share an exciting opportunity with you. I hope you will support me in this venture. I work part time at UNC-Charlotte and will be offering a week-long immersion opportunity for high school students and college students ages 16 and up. As a young woman who is very passionate about theater arts as well as German, I have worked with Dr. Buchenau to come up with a fantastic course offering for your children. I will be teaching a theater arts course in German! It will be 45 contact hours completely in the target language. On Friday evening, the last day of the course, we will be performing for parents and friends. Students will earn college credit while still in high school! I have extensive voice training and also spent my youth performing with various theater groups. Additionally, in graduate school I played the lead in our production of Der goldene Drache. It was an amazing experience and I hope that I can replicate it at UNCC! Please contact me if interested and I will get all of the necessary information to you. (Including the cost of tuition) Thanks, Molly Rowland German Teacher, South Mecklenburg High School The National German Honor Society improved the outdoor environment on campus this month.
