Kakehashi Project
"Kakehashi" means "a bridge" in Japanese. The Kakehashi Project is an exchange program fully funded by the Japanese government. The Japanese Consulate General of Atlanta introduced CMS to this project. SMHS was one of only eight high schools from the USA selected to participate in SY16-17. South served as the umbrella for a group of 22 CMS students and three teachers from South, North, and West Meck high schools to visit the Horyuji International High School in Nara and other places from November 14-22, 2016. From February 1-7, 2017, South hosted 23 students and two teachers from Horyuji International High School including home stays with South families from the 3rd-5th. The Goals of Kakehashi: 1. To promote mutual trust and understanding between the people of Japan and the USA to build a basis for future friendship and cooperation. 2. To promote a global understanding of Japan’s economy, society, history, diverse culture, politics, and foreign policy. 3. To participate in home stay/Home-visit with Japanese families and to experience Japanese culture including various types of traditional performing arts and public entertainment events. |
