CIEE GLOBAL NAVIGATORS - SUMMER 2017
CIEE's "High School Summer Abroad" students spend part of their summer abroad exploring a different culture and language in one of 25+ destinations across the world. These students return with new skills, a broader perspective, and maybe even college credits. Participation and scholarships are open to ALL South Meck students (not only those enrolled in the World Language Magnet.) CIEE's programs include Language & Culture, Service & Leadership, and Global Discovery.
SMHS has eight students taking advantage of the Global Navigator Scholarships. Highlights are below. Please contact [email protected] if your student would like to be included.
(The contact for families wishing to host an "inbound student" from another county is Ms. Yvonne Alldaffer, CIEE Regional Director.)

Leah Woods & Elise Lorenzen
|
Leah and Elise are both Juniors who have attained proficiency in their target language (Japanese for Leah and German for Elise) via the Smith/Waddell K8 program and World Language studies at South, but notably chose a Study Abroad program in a country with a totally different language. While slightly nervous about the language barrier, both are confident in the preparation they have done through CIEE and the daily Spanish lessons they will receive along with "living the language" with host families in the Dominican Republic. Both were drawn to the Service & Leadership aspect of this particular CIEE program to further their personal educational and life goals. We wish them well and look forward to hearing about the highlights and challenges upon their return!
